Brooklyn Magazine Launch.

So The L Magazine folks just released their first quarterly mag. named Brooklyn Magazine. Fred graced the back cover. Of course he did. Congrats on the launch, I am sure Fred looks forward to partying with you.

Fred. Hockey. Yes!

So Fred was chillin’ with FoF Jenn and Phil in MN. U.S. Pond Hockey was about to kickoff, so FoF Phil dropped in on Fred at his local DOJO – The Grand Hotel – and convinced him to join the O.G. Red Army Team out at the pond. Next thing we hear, Fred is hydrating in style and O.G is winning match after match. They are 3-0. Sweet! Favor: Keep Fred moving, we don’t want him to freeze. New update: Lost their 4th match. Bummer, now can Fred go back inside?

Happy New Years!!!

Is that a Turkey reading Fredspot?

It is. Follow Fred’s famous chestnut stuffing recipe and you’ll thank FredSpot for the rest of your natural born life [and your childrens' natural born lives, and so on, and so on]. It rarely makes sense to set the bar so high in the beginning. Most recommend setting the bar low and exceeding it. I would agree with this theory, but there are exceptions to the rule. And this recipe from Grandma is one of those exceptions. Big time. Let us know how it went. Email us at fof@fredspot.com

Fred is off the reservation…

So Fred came to us with this idea of being a hot dog for Halloween. He wasn’t really asking us what we thought, he had already made up his mind. At least that’s what was coming off of him for energy. But I think he was just looking to pick a fight. I mean, why would a perfectly pure bottle of water want to dress as a hot dog? First of all, from an image perspective it’s a terrible idea. MMmmm hot dog water. Gross. Second, it makes no sense at all? It’s not funny! You know what Fred? Be a hot dog. Whatever. BTW – Your costume isn’t even good. For friends of Fred, sorry you had to see this. Seriously. FoF Adam Wich

Fred cold spillin’ at Red Bull Flugtag (pronounced Floogtag).

Tomorrow is a big day in St. Paul, Minnesota.  Ordinary people will attempt something extraordinary. They will attempt to fly hand-made human-powered aircraft off a 30-foot platform, over the Mississippi River.  The record for the farthest flight-to-date currently stands at 195 feet set in 2000 at Flugtag Austria. The U.S. record stands at 155 feet set in Nashville, Tennessee, in 2007. It just may be that a special elixir of Fred and Red Bull could help launch these daredevils into the record books.  Or not.  Either way, it will be one fun day.  Look back here tomorrow for some sweet pics!  Also checkout the teams and their aircraft at http://www.redbullflugtagusa.com/TwinCities2010 And if you’re chillin’ in MN, come on by, it’s free!
- FoF William E. Ocean

Oh, hear a big clear shoutout for FOF Alex, Sean, Phil, Dean and all you Daredevils out there.  And the good people at Red Bull!

UPDATE: The elixir worked.  World record flight: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Im8VtLQgh4

Nashville, watch out.

So Fred is all ready to hang in the Music City! BountyBev [an awesome distributor] will be escorting Fred around, introducing him to the right folks. Shout out to FoF Kurt, the prez of that co. More on this as Fred friends up.

Int’l Spy Conference

A year or so back, FoF Ocean wrote a piece about a little Spy Conference in Raleigh, NC.  Well, it just went on again.  Next year, I want to go.  Now, what’s so interesting about this is – well, it’s a Spy Conference – what’s not interesting about that?  But what’s interesting to us FoFs is the brilliance of a simple little Ad for the conference by an agency named The Republik.  I mean, this commercial ranks up there with my favorites.  It’s not on YouTube, so if you want to check it out, follow these instructions.  Go to http://therepublik.net – click on ‘work’ in the menu on the upper left – click on the floaty icon in the middle of the site that says “INTL SPY CONFERENCE” – click “View all work by tactic” – click “Broadcast” and enjoy.  Is that not hilarious?  Who wants to go next year?  Note: The link to the conference itself is http://www.raleighspyconference.com/ – Is there any way this isn’t actually real?  FoF Marcus

SXSW was pretty cool this year.

Fred was asked to cold chill in the center of the action at Whole Foods on Lamar and 5th St. in downtown Austin. And cold chill he did. Artists seen included Funeral Party and Voxtrot at Emo’s Jr., Shwayze rocked out, Joseph Israel the kickass reggae singer, Melissa Rapp who is now a special FoF. Fred also shared a ride with a writer on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart – that was a trip. Ben Harper was amazing. And bumping into FoFs from Brooklyn was a nice surprise. Any of you FoFs make it down to SXSW? Do tell. Who did you see? Good shows?

The art of grilling

fs_pr_pf1.jpg

fs_pr_pf2.jpg

fs_pr_pf3.jpgMichael Anthony, acclaimed chef of Gramercy Tavern, came to Queens to grill a feast with ingredients culled from the Public Farm 1 installation in MoMA’s PS1 courtyard. The architectural invention is itself a wonder: a self-irrigating agricultural system that launches majestically beyond the towering walls of the courtyard and into the Queens skyline. But the real star of the evening was the cavernous charcoal grill, fired up for a fitting send-off to outdoor cooking season.
